Vilano Day 2 Update

Day 2 of this year’s Vilano contest occurred in less than ideal conditions. After having consistent swell all year long, Vilano went flat for 5th stop on the UST tour. After a brief thunderstorm which postponed the contest for about an hour, the pros got back in the water and made the most of the less than ideal conditions. [Read more →]

Destination: Vilano Beach, FL

Vilano Beach is a tiny beach town located on the northeast coast of Florida. The town is just a couple miles north of St. Augustine, the oldest city in the United States. Situated on the north side of St. Augustine inlet, this little community started as a fishing village in the 1920’s. Up until 1995, you still had to take the original rickety drawbridge across the Tolomato River to get to Vilano Beach. Brandon Rothe Wins the Vic

Brandon Rothe put a stop to Bill Bryan’s remarkable run at the Vic. In fun summer conditions, Brandon Rothe put up a solid performance combining technical maneuvers and snappy wraps to wow the judges and snag top spot. It was an exciting event with lots of glassy barrels and progressive skimboarding.

St. George Inland Competition

The night before the St. George competition we were carpooling down the I-15 in the middle of Utah when a huge flash flood hit about 40 miles outside of St. George. We had to slow down to about 15 mph, and after about a half hour of rain and hail we hit clear skies again. As soon as we got to St. George we hit up the river to check out the conditions. The river was low; ideal for the competition. Isaac Thomas (DB Skimmer) quickly jumped in with his board to stretch out his legs.
